With more than half the U.S. population overweight, a third clinically obese, and 300,000 Americans dying each year due to obesity, there is a substantial unmet medical need in this area. Similar trends have been observed for Europe and the developing world as well. Obesity leads to significant mortality and morbidity in the form of hypertension, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and its resulting complications.
